My design manifesto

I believe in the power of clean, efficient design to directly communicate a message. words must be legible and free from decorative elements. There should be plenty of white space for the eye to rest along its journey through the page. A clear hierarchy is a necessity. Color adds a welcome atmosphere of playfulness. My designs should be welcoming, friendly, and whimsical. It’s message should be powerful and direct. It should convey the truth and reflect my own heart and mind. At the end of the day, I am a messenger.

A little about myself

First of all, thank you for taking to time to view my website and read a little about who I am. I’m a California native—I grew up in the southern part of the state, but currently call Sacramento home. I miss the beautiful beaches in LA, but love the fresh air, non-congested freeways, and mindset the of Northern California. I’m the youngest son of two photographers from Chile who found each other here in the States. I like to think my eye for design was inherited from them. When I was a kid I had a passion for drawing and painting. That passion evolved to digital art when I got my first computer and learned about a program called Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop was my sandbox, and I spent my youth playing around in it.

From a young age I started helping my parents out with their photography business by editing pictures and creating what I now call “collateral” for their business. When I took my first graphic design class in high school I realized design was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Fast forward about a decade and we get to me now. In 2017, I graduated from Sacramento State University, California with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. During my senior year I worked as an intern at the California Energy Commission where I excelled at being creative within established brand guidelines.

I have a burning desire to learn things and probably spend far too much time clicking through pages on wikipedia. I am passionate about every job that I take because I know I will come out on the other side a little more knowledgeable. I hope to continue learning from my experiences and developing my skills as a designer and a person.
